🎞️🏛️ Jump Cut

“The project title references a technique in film editing where there is an abrupt transition in the film, typically in a sequential clip, which makes the subject appear to jump from one spot to the other, without continuity. In film in order to unfold an account with clarity, these seeming discontinuities cohere, somewhere in the story, into a discernabl whole.

Architecture, too, requires the legibility of coherence among disparate elements that comprise it in order to both clearly express an idea and to meet necessary functional requirements.

The given sections are jump cuts – they appear incompatible with respect to geometry, axes, structure location of circulation, and volumetric distribution. As incommensurate, partial pieces of documentation, they leave gaps which require us to work on them as if we were archaeologists, genealogists, or tailors analyzing incomplete patterns or templates. We shall seek to read, reveal, and reinvent buildings from the available clues.”
